Be-Enriched - This Month's Charity
20TH SEPTEMBER 2017 – BE-ENRICHED

After raising over £250 for  ‘Something to Look Forward To’ a charity who work with St George’s Hospital, giving cancer patients a well deserved treat.

We’re happy to announce that this months charity will be – Be-Enriched.

Be-Enriched have been working hard over the last few years, organising a number of community events in and around South London. They have helped people learn new skills, get people back into employment and they also feed a hungry crowd, at their three weekly canteens.

Freshly cooked meals are prepared and cooked from surplus food, that’s donated from local businesses, in South London and from this, a free weekly lunch is prepared and cooked for people in the community who need it the most.

Last week I went to visit Abigail and her team of volunteers at the Graveney Canteen, which runs every Friday, from 12:30pm – 2:30pm at the Tooting URC, on Rookstone Road. Welcomed in by so many friendly faces, it wasn’t hard to see why Be-Enriched is such an important part of the community.

With all the volunteers busy in the kitchen cooking up, (what smelt like an epic storm of a lunch) a beef stew, with mash potatoes and a selection of fresh veg, I was able to have a chat to some of the regulars.

There’s a real mixture of people who attend The Graveney Canteen, elderly people who live alone and may find it hard to cook a meal, people with learning difficulties, young and vulnerable who might be living somewhere without cooking facilities. Whatever the circumstance or situation, Abigail makes it clear that ‘everyone is welcome here’.

Be-enriched are always in need of volunteers at each canteen, every week. It could be a great team building activity, a day away from your desk or maybe a way of giving back to your community. Find out how you can get involved via this link.

We are delighted to be supporting Be-Enriched this month and we look forward to building awareness to such a great local charity and support their tireless efforts and volunteers, who do so much to help local people and our community.

The team also put on a number of charity events throughout the year, the next one being a charity dinner at Pop Brixton on Thursday 19th October, tickets are now on sale via this link.
