7TH JULY 2017 – THAI SQUARE – PUTNEY
On Thursday this week we were kindly invited along for lunch at the luxury eatery Thai Square in Putney.
The Restaurant is perfectly located, very close to Putney Town Centre, on the very picturesque Putney Bridge Pier, with perfect panoramic views of the River Thames.
The venue looks very elegant from the outside, the decor has been done out in a modern Thai style and the building has been designed to look like a ship. As we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who showed us upstairs, to our table in the more formal restaurant area and we were over the moon to discover the restaurant had super cool air-con, as the temperature in London had reached a high of 31 degrees that day.
We started our lunch with a half pint of Singha beer, which is a nice, light and refreshing Thai beer, which again was very welcome on such a hot day. The menu is nicely balanced, with a good mixture of vegetarian, fish and meat options. They also have a guide for allergens on the menu, which is great if you have an allergy. With so many tasty sounding options, it took us a while to decide – we couldn’t wait to get stuck in!
For starters, we chose The Grilled Wild Tiger Prawns and The Baked Aubergine, which was served with a quails egg, sweet pepper, minced chicken breast and prawn, spicy lime dressing & truffle oil.
Before our starters arrived, we were treated to a small typical Thai appetiser, watermelon topped with sweet and salty nuts and seeds, it also had a fish sauce flavour to it, a nice way to get those taste buds tingling and prepared for the flavours of Thai food.
For main course, we chose The Oriental Duck, a crispy duck leg with chestnuts, cashew nuts, jujube, shallots & spring onion, topped with a tamarind sauce. We also ordered the Yellow Curry with a Tender Lamb Shank cooked in coconut cream with Thai herbs & spices topped with fried shallot.
The food came out in good time looked incredible, the dishes were well presented, cooked perfectly and the portion size was very generous. We chose from the executive menu so prices ranged from £10.50 – £12.95 for starters and £20 – £35 for mains or you could get a sharing Surf & Turf platter of a Whole Lobster salad, Miso black cod, Scallops, Lamb chops, Beef ribs. Served with “Jeaw”- North-eastern style sauce and seafood sauce which costs £95 – what a treat!
Well… we will not forget that Thursday lunch in a hurry! We absolutely loved Thai Square and we recommend you pay them a visit soon. With the romantic setting and luxury style, it would make a perfect location for a date night or special occasion. If you’re celebrating on a larger scale, they do cater for large parties and you could even end the night on the dance floor downstairs, with a cocktail in hand.
